Lucky Bird is a trusted partner to acclaimed authors and screenwriters including Henning Mankell (The Chinese Man), Cornelia Funke (Ghosthunters: On Icy Trails), Julia Frank (Blind at heart), Juli Zeh (About People) Fred und Léonie Breinersdorfer (13 Minutes) und Holger Karsten Schmidt (The Mission).

 

As a production company, we take an international approach to development, production, and distribution. Extensive experience in international co-productions—and a curiosity for content and partners beyond borders—are part of Lucky Bird’s DNA. Our TV and feature productions are successfully distributed worldwide and are released in markets including the UK, Canada, and the United States, across cinemas, television, and home entertainment.

 

Lucky Bird Pictures originated as a German-Scandinavian venture with Sweden’s Yellow Bird Group (Mankell’s Wallander, Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy). Since 2012, Oliver Schündler has been the company’s sole shareholder.

 

Since 2018, Lucky Bird Pictures has been producing "Watzmann ermittelt", one of the most successful crime series in German

pre-evening television (Das Erste).

 

Oliver Schündler received the Bavarian Film Awards’ Producer Prize for Best Film for “13 Minutes", which was nominated

for seven Lolas.

 

Alongside literary adaptations, the company’s strategic focus is on developing international series formats.
