“Watzmann ermittelt” is a successful ARD crime series that takes viewers right into the impressive mountain world of Berchtesgaden. At its center are two investigators who could hardly be more different – and who, precisely because of that, form an unmistakable duo.

 

Chief Inspector Benedikt Beissl (Andreas Giebel) has ensured law and order in the region for decades. The down-to-earth, unconventional investigator prefers to work alone – until he is assigned a new colleague: Jerry Paulsen (Peter Marton). Jerry is charming, open-hearted, and team-oriented. The fact that he is also the boyfriend of Beissl’s eldest daughter Johanna leads to plenty of private tension. Professionally, however, the two quickly prove that they are an unbeatable team.

 

A central pillar of the team is Inspector Sophia Strasser (Katharina Leonore Goebel). With her analytical eye, strong dedication, and big heart, she provides stability in everyday investigative work. She is often the one who mediates between the contrasting temperaments of Beissl and Paulsen – while simultaneously contributing decisive impulses to the cases through her determination and professionalism.

 

Together with Senior Police Officer Max Ruffer (Nepo Fitz) and Police Constable Caro Reiser (Sarah Thonig), the investigative team tackles the region’s diverse criminal cases – always surrounded by the spectacular Alpine scenery that gives the series its distinctive character.

 

“Watzmann ermittelt” combines suspenseful crime stories with Bavarian local color and humorous moments that arise primarily from the interplay between its two main characters. Filming takes place at authentic locations in and around Berchtesgaden.

 

The series is broadcast on Das Erste, and all episodes are available afterwards in the ARD Mediathek.
And viewers can soon look forward to 12 new episodes.
